Tenders sought for multi-million pound leisure centre for Ashfield

According to Ashfield District Council leisure is a “high priority” for the area, with plans for a state of the art facility at Kirkby and a second swimming pool at Hucknall.
The council said it was also “making progress” in appointing a new Leisure Operating Contractor, for the Kirkby project.

Hide AdA spokesperson said :”We anticipate we should know who the new contractor will be by the end of September.” The council said it was “looking forward” to discovering who will submit the successful tendered bids for the construction.
Plans for the multi-million pound facility were approved at Planning Committee meeting in June, 2020, following two consultation periods. The council submitted a build planning application in March, 2020.
According to the authority, the consultation period saw a “positive and productive response” with council officers “working closely” with local residents.
The spokesperson said: “Successful bidders will operate from April, 2021 onwards, for ten years, with the option of extending for a further five years.

As well as the additional swimming pool, plans for Hucknall Leisure Centre includes improved changing facilities and a new mezzanine floor to extend the fitness suite.
