Officers were called to Lindley Street in the town shortly before 1.45pm today (Sunday, March 21) following reports that a man had climbed onto the roof of the former Redfern Travel premises and was throwing tiles.
A number of vehicles in the area were damaged.
Police blocked off the road and closed nearby Westfield Lane and urged members of the public to ‘stay away’ from the scene while specially-trained negotiators engaged with the man.

An ambulance was called to the incident but no injuries have been reported.
Negotiators managed to talk the man down and he was arrested at around 6.30pm on suspicion of affray and criminal damage.
Insp Hayley Crawford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the efforts of officers on the scene, including trained negotiators, the incident has now come to a safe conclusion and a man has been taken into police custody.
