Belper train crash victim named online

A man killed by a train on Saturday night has been named on social media.

On Facebook, the victim has been named as 16-year-old Mitchell James Rodgers.

Derbyshire police was called to an incident in Belper town centre at around 9.50pm

A force spokesman said: “Shortly after officers arrived, a collision occurred between a male and a train close to Belper train station. The male was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.”

A fundraising page has now been set up in memory of the teenager, it states: “Mitchell Rogers was a sweet, young, 16-year-old boy. Who tragically died at 9.50pm, on the 28/03/2015.

“Mitchell was hit by a train and the family have been in pieces ever since. The community want to raise funds for a bench/plaque to be made in remembrance of this bright boy. And money towards funeral arrangements and flowers etc.”

The force has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Any witnesses are asked to call them on 101.
