Live screenings of Mike Leigh’s The Pirates of Penzance
Mike Leigh’s operatic directorial debut, The Pirates of Penzance, will be broadcast to cinemas as part of English National Opera’s series of live screenings.
Leigh joins the likes of Terry Gilliam and Mike Figgis in the impressive list of filmmakers who have been lured to tackle opera at the London Coliseum.
The film will be beamed live to 400 cinemas across the globe, including Cineworld Chesterfield and Sheffield and the Savoy in Worksop, on Tuesday, May 19, at 7.30pm.
Chesterfield’s Pomegranate Theatre will host a replay of the satellite broadcast on May 21 at 7.30pm.
